And the winner is...
A MAZE. Indie Games Award at A MAZE Indie Connect Festival, Berlin.

The game PROTEUS by Ed Key and David Kanaga (music) has won the award for the THE MOST AMAZINGINDIE GAME at the A MAZE. Indie Connect Festival. Beside an invite to the European Indie Game Days in Marseille and the distribution of the game on Little Indie the winner received 5000 Euro and a trophy. www.visitproteus.com
After nominating ten games, the international jury - Zuraida Buter (NL), Thierry Platon (FR), Marek Plichta (DE) und Chris Adkins (USA) – decided between Where Is My Heart? and PROTEUS.
They voted for PROTEUS, a zen-like explorative game which does not imply the classic gamed techniques. Without having any specific objective the player moves on a surreal island crossing four seasons. The gamer can play own games following strange animals and frogs: doing this, a soundtrack is created. Maybe it is a poem?
It is for sure experimental and indie!
The award was financed via a startnext campaign – the main startnext sponsor Andreas Illiger, who in 2011 was very successful with his indie game TINY WINGS, announced the award winner.
About 100 indie game designers from eleven different countries used the A MAZE. Indie Connect on April 26th and 27th as a platform to exchange their ideas about game design, programming, distribution and marketing.
Thorsten S. Wiedemann, director of Indie Connect: "I’m still amazed: So many interesting talks, ideas, inspiration... I’m happy that so many indie gamers/ designers came to Berlin. We achieved our objective bringing together the protagonists of European indie gaming: Let's play again at the second edition of the International A MAZE. Indie Connect in 2013!"
